"Try your best to check off all the boxes (clinical hours, shadowing, work with the underserved, research, leadership, etc.) but have at least one area that you are very passionate about and be outstanding in it. For example, if you are going for a research oriented application that might look like publishing a peer reviewed manuscript and/or presenting your research at conferences. Also try to find extracurriculars you enjoy and do them longitudinally, 1000 hours of clinical over 4 years is shows more commitment to medicine than 1000 hours of clinical experience in a couple months. "
